Kauai Days 11 and 12 - The final countdown here in Kauai

Were coming down to our last few days here....we've been taking it easy and going to the beach everyday, watching the turtles and snorkeling every chance we get. We still haven't seen another seal on the beach but a turtle came up on the beach for a nap yesterday.

Kauai Day 10 - Boat trip up and down the Na'pali Coast

Today we took a cool boat ride on a catamaran up and down the Na'pali Coast. This coastline was shown in the beginning of Jurassic Park, you may recognize it? The mountains and landscape were just amazing. There were lots of caves cut into the rock coastline and the patterns the water has made on them were cool. We went down the coast, stopped and had lunch and snorkeled, and then went back down the coastline. It was very choppy on the way back, the wind picked up and the swells were 6-8 feet! It made a fun ride back! We had fun and no one got seasick thank god! Afterwards we hit the beach for some more snorkeling.

We went into the cave with the boat..pretty cool, but about an hour later it wouldn't have been so cool with 6-8 foot seas!

We had the toad show in front of the house every night. There must of been 10 or so on the grass and they just hung out and ate bugs. Didn't move much, just found there spot and planted it.

Kauai Day 9 - Scuba diving and Kipu Falls

Today was my first attempt at diving. It was really great. The dive base was fantastic and we ended up seeing lots of fish and cool creatures. Our first site was Turtles Bluff and General Store. We started at Turtles Bluff and saw a puffer fish, 2 turtles, 2 moray eels, a white tip reef shark and lots and lots of colorful fish. It was like a fish bowl, you almost had to move them out of the way to get by! The second site was Three Fingers. There we saw lots of fish, 3 turtles, a giant head moray (apparently very rare here, first time for the dive guide, he was very excited) which had a head on it the size of mine! Very cool! Christian lounged on the beach and did some snorkeling while I went diving. In the afternoon we went to Kipu Falls and saw the waterfall there. It was a hike through the jungle, but we made it in and out before getting eaten alive by mosquitoes!

Kauai Day 8 - Farmer's Market and Bike trip along the East Coast

We went to the Farmer's market today and bought lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. You really did have to get there early (we know what you mean Jan and Megumi!) because it went fast! There were lots of yummy things to eat and beautiful flower arrangements. Afterwards we took a bike trip along the Eastern Coast. There was a 10 mile bike path with lots of nice coastline to see. We also became famous as we were asked to be in a safety video for the bike company! It will appear on Youtube soon...we'll keep you posted....could be our big break! Ha!

Kauai Day 7 - Hiking along the coast

Today we decided to find hike a little and find a couple of secluded beaches. We went to the Maha'ulepu beaches consisting of Ha'ula beach and Kawailoa Bay. The coast was beautiful and it was cool to see how the rocks have formed pinnacles due to the ocean. The scenery was like a postcard and there weren't too many people on the beach. Snorkeling wasn't great here because the water was so rough. We decided to go back to Poipu beach afterwards for more snorkeling.

Kauai Day 5 - Kayaking down the Wailua River

Today we kayaked down the Wailua River and hiked to the Secret Falls. The trip was great and our tour guide Aaron (originally from Mass :-) was excellent. We learned so many things, I guess it helped that he was a marine biologist. I think he liked having two science nerds on his trip! We asked lots of questions! The trip was really nice and peaceful along the river. We also hiked to Secret Falls. That was cool. The waterfall was so powerful, if you got within a few feet of it you got blown away! Before and after we went snorkeling and practiced with the camera!
